See those stripes? Those stripes are the dried marks left behind by the salt brine the North Carolina DOT treats our (major) roads with WHEN WE’RE EXPECTING WINTRY PRECIPITATION.
My various weather forecasts of choice are conflicted on whether or not we should, in fact, expect ice/snow/sleet/whatnot, but I don’t give a damn. The weather guesses are only right some of the time, and the stripey roads paired with the possible forecast have me FREAKING GIDDY.
p.s. Yes, brine. Like what you (if you’re smart) do with your turkeys. Weird, no? Having been in a four-car accident on an icy North Carolina road (plus, you know, logic), I question its reliability, but what do I know? I only grew up in the snow belt of Ohio. I can’t say I blame them too much, though. A cone building (technical term) full of rock salt would probably last a century here. *sob*

LOL I love that you took a picture of this. I also question its reliability, especially since the brilliant locals have a tendency to put it down 24+ hours in advance most of the time.
I am crossing my fingers for snow too. I always get homesick for Colorado in the winter. Coming from so much snowfall to hardly a flury sucks.com.

I was wondering what those lines were when I was driving home. Your pics so far are great and it’s totally making me want to start bringing my camera with me everywhere I go.
